Bien

Well,
well, well, we’ve almost forgot the administrative aspect. In few words, here
are the essential things to do before starting your trip.
- Passport
You must have a biometric passport to go through the American
customs. In France, it costs 86€ for adults (and a bit less for children) and
it is delivered within two weeks in “low period” and at least three weeks in
the summer period. If you want to go to the United States, your passport must
be valid up to six months after your return, so check it out!
- Esta
What is that and what does it consist of? To be short,
it is a form to fill in to give information of your past to the embassy:
illnesses, implications in doubtful cases, murders (yes they really ask you
that!) etc. You must have this little paper to enter the United States, and it
must be filled max three days before you leave, the best of course is to do it
as soon as you have booked your flight. Il will cost you 14$.
To fill it, have a look here: ESTA
- International driving license
If you
think of renting a car in the USA (or in another country outside the UE of course),
you will need an international driving license, because you should know that
your national driving license is not valid worldwide ;) It doesn’t cost
anything (at least in France) and you just have to send to your prefecture (or
subprefecture) a copy of your driving license + an ID photo + a stamped
envelope.
